Our Community

The Bonnie Doon Community Centre (BDCC) is the hub for local activities, social programs and connection for many of our community members. With a goal to support the health and wellbeing of locals, provide a non-judgmental, inclusive, welcoming environment that builds a sense of belonging for all people in our community, the Centre is open weekdays and runs a free library “The Old Library” and an Op Shop – which the locals have fondly named “The OpporDoonity Shop.”

The BDCC functions as a not-for-profit charity, a Neighbourhood House located on Taungurung Country in central Bonnie Doon. It receives funding from the Victorian State Government through the Department of Families Fairness and Housing (DFFH) to provide the community with opportunities to enrich their social environment, and all other funding is raised through community grants, the OpporDoonity Shop and donations.

The Centre runs activities, programs, courses and events that are in-line with its organizational goals to serve the community and it is a registered charity with Australian Charities and Not-For-Profit Commission (ACNC). The Community Centre while providing for local community members also seeks to partner with local business, organizations and people in new ways that promote, grow and build our local community in resilience, strengthen our sense of belonging and sustainability for the future.

The Centre also runs an Op Shop – The OpporDoonity Shop and a free Library which was the original Bonnie Doon library and is now run by volunteers. The Old Library itself was relocated to the school grounds and restored in 1999 (one of the first historic perseveration projects) by the Bonnie Doon Community Group Inc. If you are a local, please come by and speak to us about joining our free book borrowing service.

“We are a regional community of innovative people, who wish to sustain a locality that focuses on building a resilient, strong, cohesive community that shares ideas, skills and comes together to connect and support one another.

Our focus is on supporting the wellbeing of our mental and physical health, connecting, creating and facilitating social groups and activities that include caring about our people, our environment, and preserving our history.”
